Day Seven

Bye Florence, hello San Miniato and Bologna. On the way to Bologna we made two stops in San Miniato to experience fresh meat from a butcher shop and a Tuscan olive oil tasting. Our first stop was to Macelleria Norceneria Gastronomia - a 4th generation butcher's shop now ran by Sergio.





The beautiful thing of these little cities is that all your food is fresh and comes from local farms. They have their own farm a little away from the main streets of town and then distribute the meat, dairy, and produce within their meals to the locals there. We enjoyed a breathtaking view while sampling fresh salami and bread.








The small cities allow for these views because they don't have tall buildings and mass factories interrupting the views.

Next we stopped at a small restaurant in San Miniato as well. Giulio the owner and olive oil producer gave us a quick lesson on how to tell the difference between a good an old olive oil by appearance, taste, and smell.





I will now be that annoying person wherever I go because I can use that lesson to depict what I'm being served. We then ate a delicious 3 course slow food method lunch before heading to Bologna.













Once checked into the hotel we left to see the city and find a pub. We skipped dinner but the pubs here offer the small bites so we had some bread and then we ordered a small tapas style plate. It was fairly cheap, for a plate of tapas and a beer was only 10euro and it kept us full til later that night.





Before heading in for the night we found the only place near our hotel still open and had some yummy greasy pizza and calzones. If you know me then you know cheese is the way to my heart.





Sad our trip is more than half over.

Horrible... I couldn't sleep or get comfortable BUT it went by a lot quicker than the flight there. Thank goodness for in flight...
